Barbara Scogings grew up in Durban and graduated from Natal University in 1977 with a B.A (Hons.), majoring in English and Drama. She lectured Drama there before moving to Wits University to study and lecture further. She returned to Durban in 1984 after being widowed and began a successful career in corporate sales. Barbara later remarried, had two daughters and divorced in 1997. She did attempt marriage again but it was short-lived, albeit full of rich lessons!
